• Goodspeed's History of Greene County.
• Bright Hope Iron Furnace Ledger from 1835 and 1836, transcribed by Mr. A. Claude Ferguson. He includes a surname index for those mentioned within the ledger. This site is a MUST SEE site, especially if you have several ancestors who were in Greene County during this time frame.

Enumerations

There are no census records for Greene Co (along with most of the State of Tennessee) until 1830. You will need to rely on tax records, deeds, wills and other resources to prove your ancestor was in Greene County before 1830.

Civil War in Greene Co.

• Declaration of Grievances Adopted at the Greeneville Convention
• Southern Claims Index for Greene County contains a list of names of those who claimed their property had been taken by United States military personnel for use in the Civil War.
• The Battle of Blue Springs -- October 10, 1863
• Civil War Diary of Capt. Thomas Bible, 8th Regiment TN Vol. Inf. This diary covers the time Capt. Bible enlisted in December 1862 until the time he returned after the war. Contains many names, battles and locations. From this page there is a link to the members of C Company, the Company Capt. Bible commanded and also a poem written by him after the war's end.
• Execution of the "Pottertown" Bridge Burners. Civil War drama in Greene County.
  
  
  • Personal notes/research on the bridge burning incident contributed by Dennis Michael O'Neill
• 2nd Tennessee Volunteer Infantry Regiment. This was a Union Regiment in the Civil War from East Tennessee. There is information about the regiment plus information of about 1100 soldiers. Some of them were from Greene County.
• Notes about the 4th TN Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Notes are compiled from Official Records of the Civil War and the personal papers of Private William Anderson Renner, Company G, 4th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry. Contributed by Dennis Michael O'Neill. We thank him.
