Funeral Rites for Hugh L. Baxter Set for Saturday

The funeral of Hugh Lee Baxter, who died Thursday morning at four o'clock in a local hospital will be held at New Bethel Saturday afternoon at 2:30. The Rev. E. H. Denham and the Rev. Warren C. Mounts will conduct the service. Burial will be in adjoining cemetery.

Active pall bearers will be Carl Graham, Newman Black, Ralph Baxter, Everett Black, Luck Lowery and Jay Hartman.

Honorary pall bearers will be Epp Hartman, Elbert Pierce, Cawley Russell, Jim Mercer, LeRoy Weems, Buck McLear, N. S. Hasbrook, Horace Baxter, Gurney Laughters, the Rev. Sexton and David Fox.

Flower girls will be the young ladies of the New Bethel Church.

The deceased was the son of J. F. Baxter and the late Jennie Bible Baxter. He is survived by his wife, Lela Jones Baxter: two daughters, Saundra Lee Baxter, of Greeneville, and Mrs. Bill Edwards, of Norfolk, Va., a grandmother[sic] Bregett [sic] Ann Edwards, also aged father, Mr. J. F. Baxter, a brother, Clarence Baxter, of Greeneville, and a foster sister, Mrs. Rex Foshee of Morristown.

He professed faith in Christ a number of years ago and joined the New Bethel C. P. Church, of which he was a faithful member until death.

In his passing he will be greatly missed in his home and community. In his home he was a devoted husband, father, son and brother.

Active pallbearers will be William Baxter, Don Baxter, Robert Keller, Ray Keller, John Hardin, J. L. Phillips, Wilburn Baxter and Wallace Baxter.

The body will remain at Kiser Funeral Home throughout the services.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Kiser Funeral Home.
