Clarence Victor Baxter, age 80, of Rt. 14, Greeneville, passed away suddenly at his home Tuesday at 6:15 a.m.

A retired farmer, he was an active member of New Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church until his death.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 64, a member of Disabled American Veterans, serving as an officer for many years, and a veteran of World War I.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mae Dugger Baxter, two sons: John D. Baxter of Greeneville and Harold D. Baxter of Lewisburg, Tenn.; one daughter, Miss Coriece Baxter of the home; one grandson: Dean Balding Baxter of Lewisburg, Tenn.; and one granddaughter, Mary Rene Baxter of Lewisburg, Tenn.

He was the son of the late John Franklin and Sarah Jane Bible Baxter and was preceded in death by one son, Larry Baxter; one brother, Hugh Lee Baxter; and one grandson, Harold Baxter Jr.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Kiser Funeral Chapel with interment in New Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. Rex Brown and the Rev. James McGuire will be the officiating ministers.
