Fred Lynn Cobble

Died: 02-17-2003 Fred Lynn Cobble, 87, of Greeneville, died early Monday morning at Laughlin Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Born and raised in Greene County, he was a carpenter by trade.
His work took him to Michigan, where he lived for a number of years. He was a longtime member of Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters.
After retirement, he moved back home to Greene County.
Mr. Cobble was a member of Sinking Springs Lutheran Church during his youth. He became a member of Asbury United Methodist Church upon his return to Greeneville.
The family noted that although his hobbies were many, he had a special love for woodworking and that he loved giving and sharing his woodworking talent with family and friends, as well as with strangers. They said that many people in Greene County have been the recipient of one of his paper towel holders or mug racks.
The family further stated that he and two of his brothers, Charles Hoover Cobble and Luther Cobble, were known throughout Greene County and neighboring counties for their homemade molasses.
He was the widower of Christine Irwin Cobble and Kyril Burrow Cobble.
Survivors include his stepdaughter: Barbara Burrow Hicks of Greeneville; two stepsons and their spouses: John Edward and Jeannie Irwin of Knoxville and Paul and Martha Irwin of New Mexico; stepgrandchildren and their spouses: Phil and Arlene Hicks, Chris and Jamie Hicks and Ben Hicks, all of Greeneville, Richard and Sheila Irwin of Birmingham, Ala., and Donna Jordan of Charlotte, N.C.; stepgreat-grandchildren: Rylee Hicks and Tyler Hicks, both of Greeneville, and Heather Fine of Knoxville; four sisters and three brothers-in-law: Lora and Sam Boyette, Mary and Charles Susong, and Josie Carland, all of Greeneville, and Effie and Buena Lowe of Morristown; three sisters-in-law: Ruth Cobble and Patsy Cobble, both of Greene County, and Ruby Cobble of Knox County; two brothers-in-law: Leonard Rader and H.T. Collins, both of Greeneville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Troy and Henrietta Kilday of Greeneville; a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; a speci! al friend and neighbor: Addie Burrow of Greeneville; and special friends: R.W. and Mary Lou Ayers of Chuckey.
He was a son of the late Charles Minnis and Josie Emma Wisecarver Cobble; five brothers: Luther Cobble, Charles Hoover Cobble, Leroy Cobble, Ted Cobble and J.T. Cobble; and sisters: Alyce Rader and Valire "Babe" Collins.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Asbury United Methodist Church. The Rev. Julian Walton and Pat Nelson, lay pastoral minister, will officiate.
Private interment is scheduled for a later date in Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles M. Cobble, Ralph Cobble, Fred H. Cobble, John Hope, Bill Cobble, Ray Martin, Jack Lowe, and Jim Harris.
Honorary pallbearers will be the ushers, the members of the Men's Bible Class and the members of the PEP Club at Asbury UM Church, Dr. Maynard Austin, Dr. Michael Menz, Dr. Nathan Horner, and Dr. William Hamilton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fred Cobble Memorial Fund at either Sinking Springs Lutheran Church or Asbury UM Church.
