Carl L. Smelcer
Funeral services for Carl Lewis Smelcer of Hobbs will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Brian Simpson will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. today, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Feb. 9, at Duncan-May Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of the funeral home.
Mr. Smelcer, 58, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Lea Regional Medical Center. He was born June 29, 1944, in Pendleton, Ore.
He worked as a driller with Griffin Water Well Service, and served in the Army Special Forces in Vietnam. He was a certified electrician, air-conditioner repairman, mechanic and farmer.
He is survived by his father, Earl Smelcer of Salem, Ore., one son, Nathan Smelcer of Hobbs; and three sisters, Helene P. Walker of Savannah, Ga., and Laurie A. Kinney and Katheryn Smelcer, both of Salem, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Mae Smelcer.
