George Edward Smith, Sr.

Sonora — George Edward 'Smitty' Smith, Sr., 76, of Sonora died Thursday, January 4, 2001, in a San Angelo hospital.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 6, in the Sonora Cemetery with Don Jones officiating. Arrangements are by Kerbow Funeral Home.

Smitty was born November 23, 1924, in Mart. He was married to Hilda Luckie on November 21 1946, in Ozona. He was a World War II veteran, having served in Europe with the 1st U.S. Army. He finished colledge in three years and served as manager in all business departments for General Motors for 36 years, winning numerous honors. He was a member of the Legion of Leaders, Chevrolet Hall of Fame, Chamber of Commerce, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Church of Christ serving wherever needed. He was parts manager and inspector for Morriss Brothers Construction until retirement. He drove a school bus for the Sonora ISD for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Hilda of Sonora; one son, George Edward 'Eddy' Smith, Jr. of San Angelo; one aunt K. Dell Donaldson of San Angelo; a sister-in-law, Irma Luckie of San Angelo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

His friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.
