Welcome to the premier issue of THE FAMILY BIBLE
Hopefully, this issue will go over well and we can continue to communicate and expand our researching by helping each other with information about our ancestor's, whether it be in our respective direct lines or our cousins.
For those of you who do not know me very well or not at all as the case maybe, my name is Bridgett Edwards Schneider (did you think to yourself, well where does the BIBLE surname come into being with such common names as Edwards and Schneider?). My greatgrandmother was Sarah Jane Bible, who is the 3rd greatgranddaughter to Hans Adam Biebel our first ancestor to come to the colonies in 1750, and second greatgranddaughter to Christian Bible, the first Bible to locate in Greene County, TN.
This newsletter is not about the descendants of Christian Bible alone. He did have brothers and sisters, quite a number of them and feel that to make this family "complete", all the offspring of Adam and Eve Bible should be researched. Although most of my contacts have been with the descendants of Christian, I have found and corresponded with and actually talked to several descendants to the Bibles who immigrated to Ohio and Indiana. I have also talked with several descendants whose ancestors migrated to Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. I have even been contacted by a Native American BIBLE researcher. Out of all the hundreds of Bible descendents we have identified in America, only one line seems unconnected to Hans Adam. That family is supposedly from Ireland, but we have our suspicions that there still may prove to be a connection to all the others.
My venture into genealogy and the BIBLE family began with a manuscript sent to my mother by her 1st cousin, Coriece Baxter of Greeneville, TN, which contained our direct lineage to Hans Adam Biebel. This manuscript sort of fascinated me, and in April of 1995 I entered the world of genealogy. Not one to sit on her laurels, I ventured forth into the new era of "cyberspace" and joined AOL (America Online) and went to their genealogy area. I know I had not been going to their forum chat areas more than 2 weeks when someone asked me about the BIBLE surname. It was a friend to the very first BIBLE cousin I had ever met (besides immediate family). He passed on this information and Scott Richards became a friend as well as a newly found distant cousin.

It didn't take me long to learn some of the ins and outs of cyberspace research and queries, and in June, just 2 short months of receiving the Bible manuscript from Coriece, I found Terri Bible Strotman (or rather she found me) and we have been corresponding and talking to each other at least 2 to 3 times a week. We've never met, but we are as close as any 2 sisters could be. Terri is the co-editor of this newsletter and will turn the next space over to her to introduce herself to you.
Hi, I'm Terri Bible Strotman. I've been trying to track down my father's lineage for many years with no success. My paternal grandfather died when my dad was only 6 years old; so I had no Bible relatives to contact and very little information to go on. And then I discovered the Internet. I met Bridgett and Jack Bible from Georgia. Jack had lots of Bible information he'd gathered from other family members. But, all this information was about Bibles in Tennessee and my Bibles were from Texas and Oklahoma. I was convinced that mine were part of the same family, so I kept digging. Finally, after much communication between the three of us newly-discovered cousins, much studying of information collected by other Bible researchers, and by contact with descendents of collateral lines, I found my line. I am descended from Hans Adam Biebel through John and Rebecca Coffelt Bible. Their son Henry and his wife Elizabeth, who lived in Bosque/McLennan Co, TX, were my gg-grandparents. We have much less information on this line than on many of the other direct lines from Hans Adam, but I hope to find more soon. There has not been as much work done on the Texas / Oklahoma branch of the family as has been done on the Tennesse and Ohio branches. I hope to correct that omission.

We are very new to the idea of a family newsletter and we would really like to hear from you about your thoughts on our project. What would you like to see in a Bible family newsletter? Do you want to know about currently-living Bibles wherever they may be? Are you more interested in finding "missing links" and / or verifying the data you may already have. Do you want to add to what you already have? Would you like to share with other Bible researchers? Something else?
We have already discovered new information that was not available to researchers when the bulk of the existing Bible genealogical data was compiled many years ago. In comparing various collections of information, we have found inconsistencies, contradictions and omissions. This is to be expected when information is collected by different people at various times. We would like to reconcile the conflicting versions of the family history into one accurate account, if we can; and to share that account with as many Bible descendents as possible.

We really would like to see this newsletter get up and running, and for now hope to get an issue out about every 3 months or so. If a lot of data from you starts rolling in and we find that it would be more beneficial to produce it more often, then we will; but we would not go any longer than 3 months between issues. We would like your opinions on this time frame also.

Now for the nitty-gritty stuff that I feel should be mentioned upfront and honest. For those of you that have e-mail capabilities, this newsletter will only cost you whatever you now pay to download mail. For those of you who will receive it via USPS, after this newsletter gets established (I am giving it a year), there will be a slight charge to cover stamps and printing, and we promise to keep the fee/dues or whatever you would like to call it to the least amount we can work with. We are not in this for profit, but for fun, entertainment and research.

For our next issue, we would like, if you would to send us a little bit about yourself, and your direct "link" to Hans Adam and Margaretha Eva Biebel. For example, Bridgett's would be:
Hans Adam>Christian>Adam> Philip Henry> Adam/Andrew Jackson>Sarah Jane/John Franklin Baxter, Jr.>Hugh Lee Baxter>H. June Baxter/William B. Edwards> ME and there are 2 generations after me.
Terri's is:
Hans Adam>John>Henry>Adam aka Pete>William Henry>William Clyde/Me

If you have internet capabilities, and we have sent this to you through the mail, please advise us of your e-mail address. Also, if you go browsing on the WWW check out the URL:
http://bridgett.maddoc.net/
This is my homepage on the WWW, which contains Bridgett's database from her computer genealogy program. The surname section is by no means complete, but there are close to 500 people with the surname BIBLE entered into the database.

Thank you for letting us introduce ourselves with our attempt at getting an organized way of pooling information regarding our ancestors into one area for all of the cousins to enjoy, refer to and obtain information from.
